  101. If you've ever wished you could organize and manage your music collection
  102. in an easy and efficient way, then MCBase is the program for you.
  103.  
  104. This NEW MCBase V2.0 is a fully event driven, mouse controlled, object
  105. oriented, dBaseIII+ compatible, relational-to-the-max, windowing database
  106. management system, with handy dialogs, and is very flexible when it comes
  107. to your personal configuration preferences. The only REAL database system
  108. for the music collector.

  110. MCBase is a shareware program.  This evaluation version includes all
  111. features of the program.  You may evaluate it for up to 30 days, without
  112. charge (see LICENSE.MCB for more details). If you like the program, and
  113. wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you are required
  114. to purchase the program (see ORDER.MCB for more details).  Any fee you
  115. may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this
  116. evaluation version was a fee for their copying and distribution services,
  117. rather than a payment for continued use of this program.

  170. IMPORTANT NOTE: this section discribes the installation of MCBase from
  171. the original "ZIP"-type archive file. It is very lightly that the various
  172. BBS- sysops will convert this original archive file to a format that is
  173. standard on their system. Two other common archivers, that you might
  174. encounter, are ARJ (by Robert K. Jung) with the filetype "ARJ" and LHA
  175. (by Haruyasu Yoshizaki) with the filetype "LZH".
  176.  
  177. Normally, you will have received the shareware version of MCBase as the
  178. archive file MCBxxx.ZIP (xxx = version number). If you did NOT receive
  179. MCBase as this archive file, then please make sure, you have at least the
  180. following files after extraction of the archive:
  181.  
  182.       MCBASE.EXE  -     MCBase executable file, for XT-compatibles and
  183.                         up.
  184.       MCBASE.DOC  -     MCBase documentation file (as an ASCII-text
  185.                         file).
  186.       ORDER.MCB   -     MCBase order form.
  187.       LICENSE.MCB -     MCBase license agreement.
  188.       REVISION.MCB-     MCBase revision history.
  189.       GENMCB.EXE  -     Utility to create a new (and empty) set of

  209. You will need PKWare's PKUNZIP.EXE to extract the archive. Use the follo-
  210. wing command to extract all files:

  214. In case of an ARJ-file format, use: ARJ x MCBxxx.ARJ
  215. In case of an LZH-file format, use: LHA e MCBxxx.LZH

  217. Installing MCBase on your system should not be very difficult, if you
  218. follow these steps:
  219.  
  220. - 1)  Copy the original MCBxxx.ZIP archive file to a floppy disk and
  221.       store it in a safe place.
  222.  
  223. - 2)  Note: Among the extracted files, should be a demonstration database
  224.             set. In case you don't want to use the demonstration database
  225.             (anymore), execute GENMCB.EXE to generate a new set of
  226.             datafiles. DELETE GENMCB.EXE after use! It generates NEW and
  227.             EMPTY databases, so you wouldn't want to use it after you've
  228.             been entering data. (You can retrieve another copy from the
  229.             MCBxxx.ZIP archive file, should you need it).
  230.  
  231. - 3)  Create a new directory for the MCBase system, place the archive
  232.       file in it and extract all files.
  233.  
  234. - 4)  Start your wordprocessor, import the ASCII-document MCBASE.DOC and
  235.       print it.
  236.  
  237. - 5)  Run MCBase. If missing, the program will now create the neccesary
  238.       index files (MCBxKEYx.NDX) and the configuration file MCBASE.CFG.
  239.  
  240.       Note: If an MCBASE.CFG configuration file was INCLUDED in the copy
  241.             of the MCBxxx.ZIP archive file that you received, then delete
  242.             this MCBASE.CFG prior to execute MCBASE.EXE. If the contents
  243.             of this particular MCBASE.CFG configuration file does NOT
  244.             match YOUR system's configuration, MCBase may not be able to
  245.             complete initialisation.

  247. - 6)  If you have a printer which is NOT an Epson-compatible, you should
  248.       now run MCBase and check the printer configuration. See your
  249.       printermanual for the correct commands and see section "Configuring
  250.       MCBase", topic "Printer" for assistance on printer configuration.

  252. After these steps you'll be ready to run the shareware version of the
  253. MCBase Music Collection DataBase system.

  277. purposes on your personal behalf, as it turns the shareware version of
  278. MCBase V2.x into a registered version. An MCBase registration key must be
  279. treated like a book, in that the same registration key may not be used on
  280. more than one computer at the same time, just as a book cannot be read by
  281. more than one person at the same time.

  283. By registering your copy of MCBase you do NOT become the owner of this
  284. software package, but you are granted the fully supported use of the
  285. MCBase database system. The MCBase software package will remain the total
  286. property of the author, Harry Doldersum, under all circumstances.
